Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone starrer Fighter have successfully landed under 200 crore club looking at its worldwide box-office performance. The movie hit screens on January 25, a day before Republic Day. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film garnered around ₹8.00 crore on its fifth day, reaching a total collection of ₹126.50 crore at the domestic box office in India across all languages.
Global Performance of Fighter
The movie cost around Rs 250 crore to make, similar to the budget of Shah Rukh Khan’s film Pathaan from the year before. Even though it had a high cost, Fighter did well at the box office, managed to earn about Rs 203.75 crore worldwide, and became a commercial success.
Performance at Domestic Box Office
During its initial four days, Fighter had a strong showing, raking in approximately ₹118.50 crores in net revenue. The film features Hrithik Roshan as Squadron Leader Shamsher Pathania (Patty), Deepika Padukone as Squadron Leader Minal Rathore (Minni), and Anil Kapoor as Group Captain Rakesh Jai Singh (Rocky), uniting to defend the country. Notably, this marks the first on-screen collaboration between Hrithik and Deepika.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh expressed optimism about the film’s performance, highlighting its extended weekend earnings of ₹123.60 crores. Adarsh noted that while urban centres showed excellent to very good performance, the potential in mass pockets and single screens remained untapped. The post-weekend business would be crucial for the film’s success.
The Narrative
The movie’s narrative revolves around the Balakot airstrike conducted by the Indian Armed Forces near Balakot in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. This retaliatory airstrike targeted the largest camp of the terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), following a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir that claimed the lives of nearly 40 CRPF soldiers.
‘Dil Banaane Waaleya’ Song Released
In terms of music, the makers released the song ‘Dil Banaane Waaleya’ on Monday, featuring vocals by Arijit Singh, Jonita Gandhi, Vishal Dadlani, and Sheykhar Ravjiani. Hrithik Roshan shared the song on Instagram, adding to the movie’s promotional efforts. Hrithik wrote, “Tu qubool kar sajde mere.. ya woh aasmaan ko chhod de. #DilBanaaneWaaleya video song from #Fighter out now.” Another song, ‘Ishq jaisa kuch‘, has also received a lot of love from viewers.
Deepika Padukone’s collaboration with director Siddharth Anand extends to its third installment with Fighter. Their previous works include Bachna Ae Haseeno in 2008 and the highly successful Pathaan in 2023.
As the film continues its run, its success hinges on sustaining strong performance across metros, non-metros, and mass belts, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The real test, he asserts, begins post the extended weekend, marking a make-or-break phase for Fighter. Now as the movie has started it’s journey towards 200 crore club.
