Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty’s first wife Helena Luke passed away in the US on 3rd November. Dancer-actor Kalpana Iyer confirmed the news on social media.
Helena Luke was widely recognized for her role in Amitabh Bachchan’s 1985 film ‘Mard’, where she played the role of a British queen. She was married to Mithun Chakraborty in 1979 for just four months before their marriage ended.
Dancer and actress Kalpana Iyer shared the news of Helena Luke’s demise on social media. Her final Facebook post was made at 9:20 am on Sunday, where she wrote, “Feeling weird. Mixed emotions and no idea why, discombobulated (sic).”
According to media reports, Helena had not been feeling well and had not consulted a doctor. As soon as the news of Helena Luke’s death came out, the post went viral. Her friends and well-wishers posted their tributes in the comment section.
Helena later moved to the United States, where she settled and worked in the airline industry. Despite her brief film career and short-lived marriage, she remains remembered for her contributions to Hindi cinema.
Helena Luke worked for Delta Airlines and was known for her roles in films such as Do Gulaab (1983), Aao Pyaar Karen (1983), and Bhai Aakhir Bhai Hota Hai (1982).
Meanwhile, Mithun Chakraborty has been feted as the 54th winner of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, which was instituted in 1969 in honour of Dadasaheb Phalke, who is considered as the father of Indian cinema.
