Gurucharan Singh, widely recognized as Roshan Singh Sodhi from Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, has been facing severe health challenges. His recent hospitalization due to a critical illness left fans deeply concerned. A close friend, Bhakti Soni, mentioned that since returning home in May 2024, he had stopped consuming solid food. However, he has now decided to eat again, signaling a positive step in his recovery.
In an exclusive conversation, Gurucharan opened up about his health and financial struggles. He also revealed that he approached producer Asit Modi for work within the production team.
He addressed various rumors that had been spreading about him. He clarified that he had wanted to wish fans a happy Gurpurab but couldn’t visit the Gurudwara due to his deteriorating health. When he regained consciousness in the hospital, he found himself on glucose drips. At that moment, he decided to send his wishes to everyone, unaware that the video would go viral and spark unnecessary speculation. He lamented, “I was unaware of all the commotion. I do everything from the heart, but people misinterpret it.”
He also recalled reading a report that described him as unprofessional on set. This accusation deeply upset him. He had dedicated over a decade to the show and always given his best. He commented, “I was very angry after reading that. I have dedicated 13-14 years to this show and have worked wholeheartedly. Even when you have a broken back and are in the hospital, you are still working. To have such things written about you during such a time is very upsetting.” He leaned on spirituality to remain calm and sought clarity on the matter. When Asit Modi was unavailable, he reached out to the creative head, Sohail, directly. He asked if there had ever been any concerns about his professionalism. Sohail denied any such claims. Gurucharan then insisted that they do a live session together to clarify the truth. Sohail agreed, publicly confirming that Gurucharan had always been a professional actor. That put an end to the matter. He considers his work sacred and believes false accusations should not go unchallenged.
Now, as he looks ahead, he is eager for a fresh start. He has missed entertaining people and making them laugh. He expressed excitement saying, “I am excited for my second innings and what I missed the most was making people laugh and entertain them.” During his time away, he focused on his spiritual journey. He revealed that his thoughts were centered on meeting the Almighty. He emphasized, “A lot of things happen but I am someone who runs away from suicide. And advice everyone and tell them it is wrong and rab ko ek hi cheez pasand nahi hai who hai aatma hatya.”
Fans have been longing to see him back on Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. However, he shares the same perspective as Asit Modi. Balwinder Singh Suri has played Sodhi for four years now, and replacing him wouldn’t be right. Gurucharan doesn’t want to take away another actor’s opportunity.
He even approached Asit Modi for work in the production team. He offered to act as a bridge between the actors and the production house. Being an artist himself, he understands the challenges actors face and believes he can help resolve issues so that no one leaves the show unnecessarily.
His friend Bhakti Soni has been a strong pillar of support. He recently secured a brand endorsement, thanks to Bhakti, and it came at the perfect time. He feels grateful but knows he needs a steady income every month. He reflected on Amitabh Bachchan’s journey and how Kaun Banega Crorepati helped him overcome financial difficulties. He aspires to find a similar opportunity that provides long-term stability.
Gurucharan remains open to exploring new avenues. He expressed interest in judging or participating in reality shows. He knows people want to see him on screen again and is hopeful about finding the right opportunities. He also acknowledges, “I have debt on me. The debt is a lot and everyone has their own families I have created the debt I only need to clear it.”
Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah became a massive success because families could enjoy it together. He values the connection he shares with his audience and wants to continue entertaining them. He has also discovered a new audience that respects and appreciates his work. Now, he is ready for a second innings and looks forward to what the future holds.
