Sourav Ganguly Biopic: A major update has arrived for cricket and cinema fans alike! Former Indian cricket captain and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly’s much-anticipated biopic is officially in the works. Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao has been roped in to portray the ‘Prince of Kolkata’ on the big screen.
Confirming the news, Ganguly shared, “As far as I know, Rajkummar Rao will be playing me in the biopic, but due to scheduling conflicts, the film may take over a year to hit the screens.”
Sourav Ganguly: A Cricketing Legend
Sourav Ganguly, known for his fearless leadership, played 113 Test matches and 311 ODIs for India, amassing an impressive 18,575 international runs. After retiring in 2008, he took on administrative roles, serving as the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and later as the BCCI President. Under his captaincy, India won 21 Test matches and reached the 2003 ICC World Cup final.
Rajkummar Rao’s Upcoming Projects
Apart from the Ganguly biopic, Rajkummar Rao is set to appear in ‘Bhool Chook Maaf,’ co-starring Wamiqa Gabbi. The film, directed by Karan Sharma and produced by Dinesh Vijan, recently unveiled its teaser. The storyline follows a wedding ceremony that takes an unexpected turn, featuring a nostalgic background score from ‘Love Aaj Kal’ (2009).
Additionally, Rao is working on ‘Malik,’ produced under Tips Films and Northern Lights Films. ‘Bhool Chook Maaf’ is scheduled for a theatrical release on June 20, 2025.
