Mithun Chakraborty expressed his joy upon receiving the Padma Bhushan

On Thursday, the Central Government announced the prestigious Padma Awards for 2024. Veteran Hindi cinema actress Vyjayanti Mala and South superstar Chiranjeevi will be honoured with the Padma Vibhushan Award. The late Vijaykant, Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty, and Usha Uthup will receive the Padma Bhushan.

Expressing his happiness on receiving the Padma Bhushan award, Mithun Chakraborty said, ‘I am very happy; it is a feeling which I cannot describe. When one receives such a great honour after a lot of hardships, one’s happiness is something else. I want to thank everyone for giving me so much respect.’ Mithun further dedicated the honour to his fans in the country and worldwide, expressing gratitude for their selfless love and respect.

Mithun Chakraborty has had a remarkable career in the film industry, starting with his debut in the Bengali film Mrigaya in 1976, directed by Mrinal Sen, for which he received the Best Actor Award at the 24th National Awards. He made his Bollywood debut in 1976 with Do Anjaane directed by Dulal Guha, leading to a series of memorable performances in films such as Disco Dancer, Pyaar Jhukta Nahin, Phool Aur Angar, Dalal, Prem Pratigya, Jung, and Chandaal.

One of Mithun’s most memorable performances includes Agneepath, for which he won the Best Supporting Actor award at the Filmfare Awards. In 1992, he received his second National Award for Best Actor for his role in ‘Tahader Katha.’

In addition to his successful film career, Mithun Chakraborty ventured into politics in the early 2010s, joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and becoming a Member of Parliament in 2014.
