Shilpa Shetty’s husband, businessman Raj Kundra, faces trouble once again. ED has seized property worth Rs 98 crore, including their Juhu flat. Under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) of 2002, assets worth Rs 97.79 crore belonging to Raj Kundra have been temporarily seized. These assets include equity shares, the Juhu flat, and a Pune bungalow.
ED’s Action Against Raj Kundra
ED shared this information on social media through a tweet. They initiated an investigation based on multiple FIRs filed by Maharashtra Police and Delhi Police against M/s Variable Tech Pte Ltd and individuals, alleging they collected large sums of money (Rs 6,600 crore in 2017 alone) in Bitcoin from the public with false promises of 10 percent monthly returns. Raj Kundra was questioned by ED in 2018 regarding money laundering in the Bitcoin scam.
Raj Kundra’s Involvement in the Bitcoin Case
The money laundering case against Raj Kundra relates to defrauding investors through Bitcoin. ED’s investigation found that Kundra received 285 Bitcoins from Amit Bhardwaj, the mastermind of the Gain Bitcoin Ponzi scam, to set up a Bitcoin mining farm in Ukraine. Raj Kundra, along with 11 others, was arrested on July 19, 2021, for allegedly producing obscene films.

Accused Ajay Bhardwaj and Mahendra Bhardwaj are still at large. Previously, ED had seized assets worth Rs 69 crore. Complaints were filed on June 11, 2019, and February 14, 2024. The Honorable Special PMLA Court has taken cognizance of these filings. It’s worth noting that Raj Kundra made his Bollywood debut with the film ‘UT69’ last year.
