The Ajay Devgn-starrer Maidaan has achieved a monumental victory by winning the prestigious Best Asian Film Award at the Septimius Awards 2024, held in Amsterdam. The film, which tells the inspiring story of Syed Abdul Rahim’s unwavering dedication to Indian football, has been lauded not only for its artistic brilliance but also for its profound impact on global cinema.

Actor Gajraj Rao, who played a pivotal role in the film, expressed his elation on social media, sharing that he is “thrilled and deeply honoured” by the recognition. Taking to Instagram, Rao congratulated the entire team behind Maidaan, stating, “Thrilled and deeply honoured to share that our film #Maidaan has been recognized as the Best Asian Film at the esteemed Septimius Awards in Amsterdam. This accolade not only celebrates the film’s artistic excellence but also highlights its impact on the global cinematic landscape.”

Rao also extended heartfelt congratulations to the film’s dedicated producers, Boney Kapoor, Joy Sengupta, and Akash Chawla, as well as to visionary director Amit Ravindernath Sharma for bringing Maidaan to life. The post has garnered widespread attention, with fans and industry peers alike applauding the film’s well-deserved success.

Maidaan is a poignant portrayal of the life and legacy of Syed Abdul Rahim, the man who revolutionized Indian football in the 1950s and 60s. Ajay Devgn’s portrayal of Rahim has been widely praised, adding depth and authenticity to the character. The film also stars Priyamani, Gajraj Rao, and Bengali actor Rudranil Ghosh in significant roles.

Adding to the film’s artistic prowess is its musical score, composed by the legendary Oscar-winning musician AR Rahman. Despite facing significant challenges during its production—such as the dismantling of the film set due to the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020 and the destruction caused by Cyclone Tauktae in May 2021—the team behind Maidaan remained resilient. Their perseverance paid off when the movie was finally released in theatres in April 2024.

The Septimius Awards, known for celebrating international talent and excellence in filmmaking, have now added another feather to Maidaan‘s cap, solidifying its place as a cinematic masterpiece that resonates across borders.
