Bollywood actor Ananya Panday, gearing up for the release of her upcoming film “CTRL,” highlighted the urgent need for government regulations to tackle the misuse of advanced technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), particularly in the realm of deepfake videos.

In a recent conversation, Panday emphasized that deepfake videos, which digitally alter or replicate someone’s likeness without their consent, have targeted several Bollywood stars, including Aamir Khan, Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, and Rashmika Mandanna. These videos, which are often used for malicious purposes, pose a significant challenge in the digital age.

Her comments come ahead of the release of “CTRL,” a film that delves into the intricacies of AI. In the trailer, Panday’s character turns to an AI app for help after discovering that her boyfriend, Joe, played by Vihaan Samat, has been unfaithful. The app offers her the chilling option to “erase” him from her life, showcasing both the potential and dangers of AI.

Panday believes that, as technology advances, so does the potential for its misuse, making it crucial for government authorities to step in and create frameworks that protect individuals from digital exploitation. “There should be laws and regulations to control the misuse of AI, especially deepfake technology, which can be highly damaging,” she said.
