Hanuman movie review

Superhero movies often follow a common storyline we’re all familiar with. It usually involves an ordinary character gaining superpowers and facing an adversary who wants to misuse those powers for harm. The same goes for the movie Hanuman, where much like Flying Jatt, the story will build smoothly and playfully until the villain takes charge.

In the case of Hanuman, the first film in director Prasanth Varma’s superhero universe, it follows this well-known pattern. The movie takes inspiration from the Ramayana and weaves a story similar to the ones we hear in Chandamama, filled with pop culture references and entertaining, larger-than-life scenes that are characteristic of Telugu cinema.

Beginning of the Movie Hanuman

The beginning of the movie gives a nod to Marvel and DC superhero movies, with a boy wishing he could become Spiderman after a spider bite. But things take a turn when a power-hungry guy named Michael, also known as M, enters the scene. In M’s tech-filled world with towering buildings, the contrast is striking when we see Anjanadri, a town surrounded by mountains and valleys, featuring a huge rock carving of Hanuman. This sets the stage for the clash between modernity and tradition in the story.

The Character of the Lead Played by Teja Sajja

Hanumanthu, the character played by Teja Sajja, a small-time thief, lives a peaceful life with his sister Anjamma played by Varalaxmi in the fictional village of Anjanadri. This village, surrounded by nature and a big statue of Hanuman, appears somewhat isolated from the outside world. Hanumanthu’s discovery of a special object like a totem provides him superpower but it gets him the attention of Michael and his friend. The latter with malintetions will try to gain power from the lead character and this will not put only the village but also the world in jeopardy. Now, Hanumanthu must step up to tackle the challenges and protect his home.

The story build-up is sweet and fun as the village is a dreamy land for the residents. The lead character and his friend spend quality time and keep the viewers entertained. Meanwhile villain plays the power package nothing less but a ticking bomb to be turned down by the character Hanuman.

The Budget of the Film

In a recent interview, the director Prasanth Verma who only made 3 Films before releasing Hanuman talked about the budget and the basic story in the movie. The x-factors viewers are going to experience.

“This is actually not a big-budget action film. This is the film that we started with a very little budget, as and when we progressed. As Hanuman grows bigger and bigger, the project also gets bigger and bigger out of the love of the audience. So initially we released one creative and then, somebody watched it, they came in, and they became a partner in the making. They made the film bigger than it was. It’s a very beautiful film that tells a very nice story about good versus evil.”

Talking About the Superhero Theme the Director Said,

“At the same time, there will be some epic moments. So whatever the budget that we had, if you look at our teaser, the ideas were big and the team’s passion was big. So we were able to make those shots on a very low budget. Similarly, the film is bound to surprise. All I can tell is it is a very entertaining film about a person who gets the powers of a Hanuman. I know it will blow people’s minds.”
