Mithun Chakraborty, actor cum politician, was admitted to a Kolkata hospital yesterday morning, Saturday. The actor suffered from a stroke, as confirmed by the medical facility in Kolkata. The official statement disclosed his diagnosis of an Ischemic Cerebrovascular Accident (Stroke), stating he was admitted to the hospital due to weakness in his right lower limbs. Presently, he is undergoing treatment, with a team of doctors closely monitoring his condition.

Official Statement from the Hospital

The official statement released from the hospital read, “Shri Mithun Chakraborty (73), National Award-winning actor, was brought to the Emergency Department of Apollo Multispeciality Hospitals, Kolkata, around 9.40 am with complaints of weakness in the right upper and lower limbs. Necessary laboratory and radiology investigations were carried out, including an MRI of the brain. He has been diagnosed with an Ischemic Cerebrovascular Accident (Stroke) of the brain. Presently, he is fully conscious, well-oriented, and has consumed a soft diet. Shri Chakraborty is being further evaluated by a team of doctors, including a neuro-physician, cardiologist, and a gastroenterologist.”

An ischemic cerebrovascular stroke refers to a blockage in the blood vessels that provide blood to the brain, resulting in a stroke.

Mithun Chakraborty on the Work Front

Fondly known as Mithun Da, he recently received the Padma Bhushan Award in 2024. His acting journey began with the film Mrigayaa, earning him the National Film Award for Best Actor. Among his popular films are Disco Dancer, Agneepath, Ghar Ek Mandir, Jallad, and Pyaar Jhukta Nahin.

He was recently seen in Kabuliwala, which was released in 2023. Other recent works of the actor include Projapoti and The Kashmir Files. Mithun’s upcoming projects include Rivaaj and Shastri, for which the actor was busy shooting in Kolkata.

Political Career

Additionally, Mithun Chakraborty entered politics and made headlines by joining the BJP in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground on March 7, 2021.
