Rajkummar Rao announced his next project on the occasion of his 40th Birthday. His next movie is titled ‘MAALIK’ ,from the director of Bhakshak; is said to be an emotional driven action entertainment movie. Rajkummar is trained in taekwando which enhances his capability to do an action role.
Medha Shankar, known for her role in 12th Fail, is the female lead in the movie. Filming is said to begin in September 2024.
Directed by Pulkit, known for his previous work on Bhakshak and Dedh Bigha Zameen, the film sees Rao playing the role of a gangster, marking a significant departure from his previous characters. The film is being produced by Kumar Taurani under the Tips Films banner and Jay Shewakramani’s Northern Lights Films.
Maalik was officially announced by Rajkummar Rao on his social media on August 31, 2024, where he shared the first look poster of the film. The poster features Rao standing atop a police jeep, holding a gun, with a caption that hints at the transformation of an ordinary man into a leader. The tagline reads, “Maalik paoda nahi hue toh kya, ban toh sakte hai” which translates to “Even if we are not born leaders, we can become one,” suggesting a narrative centered around power and leadership.
The film’s announcement has generated considerable buzz, especially since Rao is coming off the success of Stree 2, which has been a massive hit at the box office, grossing over ₹600 crore globally. Maalik is expected to continue Rao’s streak of versatile performances, adding another intense character to his already diverse portfolio.
The music for Maalik is being composed by the popular duo Sachin-Jigar, with lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya, ensuring that the film will feature a strong musical element alongside its gritty narrative.
