Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan recently opened up about a chilling underworld attack he faced in the year 2000, shortly after his son Hrithik Roshan’s debut film Kaho Na Pyaar Hai became a massive hit. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Rakesh recalled the harrowing incident in which he was shot twice outside his office.

Rakesh revealed that the firing was a result of his refusal to grant the underworld figures Hrithik’s dates for their film. The powerful individuals had insisted on having Hrithik star in their movie, but Rakesh continuously declined, citing his son’s busy schedule. The underworld figures, frustrated by the repeated rejection, escalated the situation and ordered the attack.

Rakesh described the time as extremely fearful, recalling how he narrowly escaped death. He shared that the family had to take a step back from the film industry for a while due to the immense pressure and safety concerns.

Hrithik, too, considered leaving his acting career behind after the traumatic event. In a later interview with Simi Garewal, Hrithik confessed that he was ready to quit films for the sake of his father’s safety, as he believed nothing in life mattered more than his father’s well-being.
