Rani Mukherjee sparked a debate with a comment made during a recent roundtable discussion. Even though she’s not officially on social media, a clip from the Galatta Plus roundtable gained attention.

In the interview, which was posted on the portal 11 days ago, filmmaker Prithvi Konanur praised Iranian cinema, and Rani Mukherjee jumped in, claiming that India produces the best films globally, citing the recent sleeper hit “12th Fail” as an example.

During the roundtable, Prithvi Kannour filmmaker suggested that Iranian films have more profound ideas compared to Indian cinema. He urged people to watch Iranian films, emphasizing the notable difference in ideas, if not in technology.

The filmmaker expressed an honest opinion, acknowledging that, for some reason, Indian cinema seems to be lagging behind. He pointed out Iranian cinematic greats like Majid Majidi, Asghar Farhadi, and Abbas Kiarostami. Additionally, he mentioned Iranian actor Golshifteh Farahani, known globally for films like the Fifth Pirates Of The Caribbean and Extraction, who has earned a nomination for a Cesar Award.

Rani Mukherjee responded to Prithvi Konanur’s suggestion by expressing her offense, stating that she firmly believes Indian cinema is the best in the world. She disagreed with the idea of learning from other cinemas and recommended watching “12th Fail,” a film by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, as a brilliant example of Indian cinema. Rani emphasized the diversity in Indian films, claiming that they depict true and grounded stories, unlike films from outside India. She concluded by saying she wouldn’t compare Indian cinema to any other in the world, as it holds the most genuine and diverse narratives.

Well, Rani’s response was posted on Twitter with the question if netizens agree with the claim made by Rani Mukherjee. But users didn’t spare a moment and started roasting the actor for her claim and started asking logical questions.
