Vilasrao Deshmukh, who was born in Latur on May 26, 1945, served as the Maharashtra chief minister twice and as a minister in the UPA government headed by Dr. Manmohan Singh. He passed away on August 14, 2012.

Riteish visits Latur often with his family. Riteish was present at the Latur unveiling of his late father’s statue, a respected congressman, earlier in February.

The actor was seen crying in a video of his address, which went viral on social media.

12 hard years have passed since the demise of Vilasrao Deshmukh. Now and then, the pain shows up. He used to shine all the time, and he still does. This brilliance is unfading. He persevered so that we, his children, would also have to be strong. Must take a firm stand for the responsibilities that come with being his children as well as for ourselves. His love for us is clear today, even if he is not physically here, and it shines brilliantly on this stage,” Riteish said.

This time, in Latur, the NDA has put up senior Member of Parliament Sudhakar Tukaram Shrangare against Kalge Shivaji Bandappa of the INDIA Alliance.
