Popular director Rohit Shetty, famous for his successful movie series like Singham and Golmaal, has several much-awaited projects like IPF sequels of the former movies mentioned. The director recently broke the silence on a failed project, Cirkus, a sweet delight that was released on 23rd December 2022.
Cirkus, starring Ranveer Singh, Varun Sharma, Pooja Hegde, and Jacqueline Fernandez in important roles, was meant to be a Christmas treat for the viewers. The film was based on William Shakespeare’s play Comedy of Errors. However, the film failed to gain numbers at the box office, leading to the failure of the project for Director Rohit Shetty.
Recently, in an interview with ANI, the director Rohit Shetty spoke about the film, its failure and the motivation behind the creation of Cirkus. The director claimed that in today’s scenario, he would not even touch the project. But those were the times when his major projects like Sooryavanshi were delayed, and IPF was not even started.
“It was made during the pandemic when things were changing. Today, if I have to make that subject, I will not touch it. Sooryavanshi was not released, the Indian Police Force was about to start, and we had an eight-month gap because the pandemic was going on.” Rohit Shetty told ANI.
Considering the pandemic caused lockdown and joblessness, the director chose the project for his worker’s sake. The movie was simple and shot in the studio.
“So what should we do? Workers were sitting at home, and we had this script for the longest time, a simple, small film. I thought, ‘Chalo bana dete hain. Workers bhi busy rahenge aur hum bhi busy rahenge (Let’s make it. Workers will stay busy and we will keep busy too). It was a studio-based film, with no cars flying, no action, no heroic entry and all”, Shetty continued.
Rohit Shetty’s Upcoming Projects
Rohit Shetty has stepped into the OTT with his recent release of the action-packed web series “Indian Police Force,” which he not only created but also co-directed. The series features Sidharth Malhotra, Shilpa Shetty, and Vivek Oberoi and has received mostly positive reviews since its debut.
In addition, Rohit is currently working on the film Singham Again alongside Ajay Devgn, a part of his cop universe. Apart from these projects, Rohit Shetty has revealed plans for a biopic based on the memoir ‘Let Me Say It Now‘ by former Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria. The director has also promised to work on Golmaal 5.
