Mumbai Police arrested a man in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, on Tuesday for allegedly issuing death threats to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. The case unfolded when the Bandra police station received a threatening call last week, demanding ₹50 lakh from Khan. Following this, a case was registered under sections 308(4) and 351(3)(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, covering offenses related to extortion and criminal intimidation.

The investigation traced the call to a Raipur-based lawyer named Faizan Khan. Despite attempts to summon him, Khan did not respond, prompting Mumbai Police officers to locate him within the jurisdiction of Pandri police station in Raipur. Upon arrest, Khan claimed that his phone had been stolen and he was not involved in the threat.

In a statement to the media, Khan revealed he had reported his phone stolen to Khamardih police station on November 2. “My phone was stolen on November 2, and I filed a complaint. I informed the Mumbai Police of this, and they interrogated me for nearly two hours,” he said, defending his innocence in the matter.

Khan also revealed a previous conflict with Shah Rukh Khan over a line in the 1994 film Anjaam, referencing deer hunting, which he felt might hurt the sentiments of the Bishnoi community in Rajasthan, a community known for its religious commitment to protecting deer. “The Bishnoi community is my friend, and it’s in their religion to protect deer. So, if a Muslim comments negatively about deer, it’s condemnable. That’s why I raised objections,” Khan explained.

Expressing his concerns about foul play, Khan added, “It seems that whoever used my phone did so deliberately. I feel there’s a conspiracy against me.”
