Speaking at the NDTV World Summit 2024, ‘Stree 2’ fame actress Shraddha Kapoor (37) praised her father Shakti Kapoor and saying how he’d struggled to get roles in films and to reach the top level in the industry despite not coming from a film background.
Shraddha spoke about her journey as an actress and her father Shakti Kapoor during the Summit in Delhi on Monday. She revealed Shakti Kapoor’s struggles when he came to Mumbai from Delhi desiring to become an accomplished actor.
She said that her father Shakti Kapoor has no background. He studied in acting school only he wanted to be an actor. Shakti Kapoor’s father had a clothing shop and he wanted his son to work in a travel agency.
Shraddha spoke to the NDTV World Summit, “When people come up to me and say, ‘We are big fans of your father’, it’s another feeling altogether. My father didn’t come from a film family. I have spent a large part of my childhood here.”
She continued, “He had no background. He studied in an acting school after he told his parents that he wanted to be an actor. My grandfather had a clothing shop. He asked him to work in a travel agency. But he followed his heart. He pursued his dream.”
The actress highlighted her father’s determination and recalled that he would knock at specific director’s houses dressed up as characters he wanted to play.
Shraddha also said, “My father would land up at specific director’s houses he wanted to work with even though the security was not letting him go up. He would dress up in the part he wanted to play and go to director’s houses to convince them. That’s how he was cast.”
She followed in the footsteps of her father. She is grateful to her father for the opportunities that come her way. She said that her father’s hard work had motivated her to keep her head down.
She mentioned, “From time to time, he inquires about my shoots. I ask him before I sign a film. I have a tremendous respect for him. He’s someone who made from the scratch. His stories are always inspiring.”
