Tomorrow marks our 78th Independence Day, and actress Sonam Khan has talked about how, following festivities, the national flag is often left strewn across the street.

Bollywood actress Sonam Khan, renowned for her remarkable skill and alluring on-screen persona, considers her abiding love for India on the occasion of its 78th Independence Day. Sonam, who gained recognition for her powerful performances in films such as Lashkar, Aakhri Ghulam, and Vijay, was further catapulted into stardom with her legendary portrayal in the 1989 film Tridev.

In her reflections on Independence Day, Sonam shares, “For me, every day is Independence Day because patriotism isn’t confined to just one date on the calendar. I’m proud to be part of the world’s largest democracy. As a child, I remember the excitement of holding the national flag and the joy of knowing school was closed for the day. Those simple moments still resonate with me, reminding me of the true spirit of freedom.”

Sonam is so patriotic that she worries about what happens to the flag after the festivities. “Seeing the national flag discarded on the roads afterward is completely unacceptable. People should respect the flag—it represents our country, which has shaped who we are. For me, the country always comes first, and this has been my belief since I was old enough to form my own thoughts as a child,” she expresses.

Taking stock of India’s development in the last 78 years, Sonam notes the country’s notable advancements. India has evolved significantly over the years. While I can’t speak to the full 78 years, I can certainly say that in the last 40 years, since I became aware of the world around me, the progress has been remarkable. India is on the path to becoming an incredibly powerful nation, and I see only great things in our future,” she notes with optimism.

Sonam stays true to her moral principles even as she analyses how Independence Day has evolved over time. “I don’t have much to say about how Independence Day has evolved over the years because I tend to mind my own business. But one thing is certain—I’ve always been and always will be a patriotic person. My parents taught me one simple lesson: your country comes first. That’s something I’ve always lived by,” she concludes.

Sonam Khan’s Independence Day comments serve as a moving reminder of the value of honouring our country’s symbols and the enduring spirit of patriotism.
