She is currently a well-known writer and host. She is the daughter of Dimple Kapadia and actor Rajesh Khanna. Dimple Kapadia and Rajesh Khanna were very different in age. When Dimple Kapadia was still in her teens and Rajesh Khanna was much older than her, they were married in the 1970s. They also separated in the 1980s. There were rumours that the breakup occurred as a result of Rajesh Khanna becoming a bitter man following his professional failure.

She expressed admiration for her mother Dimple Kapadia’s behaviour following their split from Rajesh Khanna. She revealed that all of the topics she has been writing about lately seem to revolve around women discovering their identity and the conflict between who they are and who they are supposed to be.
She talked about their stay at her grandmother’s house, speaking with the image of her mother in her mind. She described how her mother slept with her sister in the same room where she used to sleep on the floor with her sister. She revealed that her mother would work out and put on a mute Jane Fonda tape when she woke up at five in the morning.
After that, Dimple Kapadia would report for duty and work three shifts. Twinkle revealed that when her mother got back at about nine o’clock at night, everyone was happy and her face was smiling. Twinkle came to the realization that a woman need only rely on herself and no one else. Men were OK, she thought, and it was fun to have them as a dessert, but they were most definitely not the main meal.
In 2001, Twinkle Khanna wed the actor Akshay Kumar. They have two children, Nitara and Aarav.
