Varun Dhawan’s ‘Baby John’ Makes Its OTT Debut: Bollywood star Varun Dhawan’s latest action thriller, ‘Baby John,’ has finally made its way to streaming platforms. After a disappointing theatrical run, the film is now available for global streaming on Amazon Prime Video from February 19, 2025.
Originally released in cinemas on December 25, 2023, the film failed to impress at the box office despite its big-budget action sequences and star-studded cast. However, its OTT debut offers audiences another chance to experience the high-energy thriller.
‘Baby John’ – A Remake of ‘Theri’ with a Power-Packed Cast
Directed by Kalees, ‘Baby John’ is the official Hindi remake of Atlee’s Tamil blockbuster ‘Theri.’ The film features an ensemble cast, including Wamiqa Gabbi, Keerthy Suresh, Jackie Shroff, and Rajpal Yadav. Additionally, the movie boasts special appearances by Sanya Malhotra and Salman Khan.
Amazon Prime Video announced the digital release on social media with a post stating, “We can listen to this hazaar baar 😌💙.”
Produced by Murad Khetani, Priya Atlee, and Jyoti Deshpande, ‘Baby John’ is backed by Jio Studios in collaboration with Atlee and Cine1 Studios.
Plot Overview: A Tale of Survival and Revenge
The story revolves around DCP Satya Verma (played by Varun Dhawan), who fakes his own death to protect his daughter from a ruthless politician, Babbar Sher. However, when old enemies return, Satya must confront his past and battle against powerful adversaries to safeguard his family.
Speaking about the OTT release, Varun Dhawan expressed his excitement, stating,
“‘Baby John’ is a milestone project for me. It tested my physical and emotional limits as an actor.”
He further added, “Working with Atlee and this incredible cast was a fulfilling experience. I’m thrilled that ‘Baby John’ is now available to a global audience through Prime Video.”
Box Office Performance: A Disappointing Theatrical Run
Initially known as VD18, ‘Baby John’ had a poor opening at the box office, collecting just ₹11.25 crore on its first day. The film’s earnings dropped significantly on the second day to ₹4.25 crore.
Despite high expectations, the movie wrapped up its theatrical run in three weeks, managing to earn only ₹61 crore worldwide against a hefty budget of over ₹150 crore. Mixed-to-negative reviews from critics further dampened its performance.
However, with its OTT release on Amazon Prime Video, ‘Baby John’ now has a second chance to reach a wider audience. Fans of action-packed dramas can stream it now and experience the film’s adrenaline-fueled sequences from the comfort of their homes.
