Yatra 2 movie review

The movie Yatra 2, directed by Mahi V Raghav, starring Jiiva as YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Mammootty as the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy, was released in theatres yesterday, 8 February. It is a biopic of Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Follow-up of Yatra released in 2019

Yatra 2 is the follow-up to the 2019 movie Yatra. While the first film focused on the life of the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Rajasekhara Reddy, played by Mammootty, the sequel tells the story of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, played by Jiiva, who is the current Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

The Story of Yatra 2 Focuses on Current CM

The film revolves around the political journey of YS Jagan, the current Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. One of the crucial scenes from the movie includes a stormy night when YSR, the then Chief Minister, wakes up early and finds his son, Jagan, also restless. Unable to express their unease, Jagan hands YSR a glass of water. Little do they know it would be their last interaction. This moment captures the father-son dynamic amidst adverse weather

The movie depicts the passing of YSR, what happened afterward, and how Jagan initiated the Odarpu Yatra to comfort those affected by his father’s death. It also shows the challenges Jagan faced due to this decision. The film highlights the immense support and positive reputation YSR built over the years. As Jagan assumes leadership after his father’s untimely demise, the storyline unfolds with political rivals plotting to falsely accuse him of corruption. Despite the obstacles, Jagan’s ascent to power remains unstoppable.

Portrayal as Virtuous Leaders

The film explores what might have happened if YSR had prioritized his wife’s concerns and postponed his chopper ride. As a sequel to the 2019 film Yatra, the movie portrays YSR and Jagan as flawless leaders, contrasting them with cunning opponents. Released close to the elections, the film carries a clear agenda. While showcasing the father-son relationship in a few major scenes, it leans more towards a one-sided political drama, portraying YSR and Jagan as virtuous leaders while depicting their adversaries as clever and deceitful.

Powerful Dialogues

The movie has strong and impactful dialogue. In one scene, a blind man asks Jiiva’s character, YS Jagan, to stand as their leader because he is YSR’s son. Jiiva’s character assures him that he has heard the request and will be there for them.

The Team Behind the Film

The film, Yatra 2, is produced by Three Autumn Leaves, V Celluloids, and Shiva Meka. The music by Santosh Narayanan and cinematography by Madhie provides significant strength to the movie. It is directed by Mahi V Raghav.
