Every person has a skill in which he is really good; if I give an example, you all must have seen the plumber. The plumber who does all the work of the tap on your homes, now plumbing for this plumber is his niche, which is really good.
Similarly, when you start a blog of your own, you have to choose your topic, about which you can write more and more. This topic is called Blogging Niche.
How to Choose Your Blogging Niche?
According to me, you should take special care of two things when choosing a blogging niche
1. How interested are you in your niche
2. How much can you earn from that niche?
These two things are very important when selecting a niche.
To select a blogging niche, you first will have to make a list, in the list you have to write all the topics that you are interested in. You have to write the names of at least 5 topics in your list, write the names of the topic form less to more interested. Write the topics in which you are most interested, followed by the topics of lesser interest. You can write more than 5; it depends on you.
For example, the following is my list of interests.
1. Digital Marketing
2. travelling
3. cooking
4. Gaming
5. Teaching
After making the list of topics, you will have to follow some rules, by which you will be clear whether the choice you have made is correct or not.
How much do you know about your Niche?
After writing the topic, you now have to test how much knowledge you have about all these topics. Yes, you have heard right; you have to be perfect in your niche. Only then will you succeed in it.
You can use my method to test your knowledge, which has been successful at all the places I have used so far. What you have to do for this, let me tell you:
Search your Blogging Niche related topic in Google, and look for top 10 websites from there, now you have to read at least 10 articles from every website. In your blogging niche, you have to read 100 articles from at least the top 10 sites. Try to read articles on the topic that you have more knowledge about.
This can have 2 benefits.
- You will get to know the style of writing of your rivals and also which topics people like more.
- Now, after reading this article, your knowledge test will also be done. If you already know 80% of the points written in the blogs, then it is a very good thing; you can proceed with it. But if you are aware of less than 50% points, then it may be difficult for you to proceed with this niche. If this happens, you go back to your interest list and start exploring your next one.
I know this method will take some time, but it can give you better insight and more clarity. If you have a better method than this one, you are welcome to use that one to get to our final Blogging Niche.
How Profitable is Your Niche
Now, when you have come to know that you have good knowledge in your blogging niche and that you can write pretty much similar quality or better than your competitor. So the second question that comes in front of you is how much money you can earn from your blogging niche. What I mean is how many options you can have to monetize your blog.
Now you must be thinking what is the need for it right now, when the blog will rank, then we can think about it. This is how 80% of people think when they start their blog. But thinking like this can get you in trouble, imagine when you have worked hard for 1, 2 years to get your blog ranked, and when it was the turn to earn money, then there are not more options, probably not even one.
That is why I believe that never take any emotional decision, you are fond of writing, you want to tell people something is a good thing. But how long this enthusiasm will continue for free, you will feel the need for money sometime for sure.
Many people start blogs to earn money from Google ads, but many of them have niches in which Google’s ads are not available. Especially for those people, it becomes very important to look at the option of monetization while choosing their blogging niche. Such as Affiliate Marketing and other ad agencies.
Do check the market value of Niche
It is very important to check the market value of a blogging niche before choosing one. Just as you research keywords before writing a blog on any topic, in the same way, it is very important to do market research on a niche when choosing a niche. Let us try to understand through an example,
Nowadays many people know about the stock market or mutual fund, what do you do whenever you buy a share or fund. Considering that many people do not know, so let me tell you that research is done before buying shares or funds. In the last 5 years or 10 years, how much has it been fluctuating?
How much has the market gone down, and how much is likely to go up in the coming days? Only after collecting all this information, you invest money in that fund or share. Now, you have to do the same thing while choosing your niche.
Now let’s know how to do this, which tool to use for this and what things to take care of. So the tool you can use for this is Google Trends. Some people may know about it already but there will be many people who will not know about it. So, for your information, let me tell you that Google Trends is a tool of Google which is used to check the value of any digital topic.
You get a lot of options in Google Trends. if you are writing a topic or blog by targeting a country, then there is an option to choose platforms ranging from location, time, and category. This means you can filter your recommendations to any niche and see its report.
The most important point you have to check is the stability of your blogging niche. If your niche has been stable for the last 5 years, then you can start your blog in it. The stability of your topic is shown through the graph, as you see in the picture below. Here, you can also see the details of the keyword associated with your low, which has been searched many times. There was only one purpose to tell you these points: how much is the scope of the business you are going to start?
Select Micro Niche
Right now, I will not tell you what micro niche is. First, I should tell you how important it is. Whenever we choose a niche, at that time its complete depth is unknown. As soon as we start working on it, then we get to know that there are many more things to it.
This is a common mistake that more than 80% of people make while choosing their niche. Let us understand this through an example:
Suppose you have chosen a cooking blogging niche. Then, you follow a competitor and start writing articles to exceed him. You have good knowledge of cooking; you are writing good blogs one by one. Suddenly, what happens is your competitor starts writing in Russian or Italian dishes.
This change can be very much liked by the users because everyone has a desire to learn something new. Now, you will start to have trouble from here because you do not know anything other than Indian and Thai. The group of people you were targeting is interested in other dishes besides Indian and Thai.
Now what will be the effect of this, your followers number will start to decrease, because you are not able to give what your competitor is offering. Now, you must be thinking about where you made the mistake. Well the mistake was made while choosing the niche, the one you chose was too big and vague. If you had made Indian dishes or Thai dishes your niche instead of cooking as a niche, then you would not be short of content. Also, your followers would have never left you.
Now you must have also understood the meaning of micro blogging niche, if not then let me tell you. When you go deeper into your niche and find something very specific in that very niche, that specific, narrowed niche is called a micro niche.
Note: If you are starting your work with a team, and there are many people in your team who are aware of different topics, then in that case, you can target niche instead of micro niche. Many people start alone and they should start with a micro blogging niche, that’s why it was very important to understand micro niche.
