In 2024, Google trends were dominated by individuals from the worlds of sports, politics, and entertainment, making headlines for their controversies, achievements, and public attention. While the year saw significant events, including the general elections and sports tournaments, one shocking revelation emerged—Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not the most searched person of the year on Google.

Instead, the top spot went to wrestler Vinesh Phogat. Her dramatic disqualification from the 2024 Olympics just before her final match, due to exceeding the weight limit in the 50kg freestyle wrestling category, made her the most searched personality of the year. Despite the controversy, if she had competed, a silver medal was almost certain, which further added to her prominence in Google searches.

Nitish Kumar Shines in Politics

Bihar’s Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, claimed the second spot in the most-searched individuals. This was largely due to his decision to break ties with the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) and rejoin the BJP. His swearing-in for a historic ninth term as CM in 2024 sparked significant political discourse.

Chirag Paswan’s Growing Influence

LJP leader Chirag Paswan also saw a surge in searches, securing the third spot. Speculations about his future in politics, his possible cabinet position in Narendra Modi’s government, and his rumored association with actress Kangana Ranaut fueled his online presence in 2024.

Hardik Pandya’s Controversies

Cricketer Hardik Pandya, who made headlines for his IPL leadership role with Mumbai Indians, was also in the spotlight. His ongoing divorce with Natasha and the controversies surrounding his leadership attracted significant attention, landing him in fourth place.

Pawan Kalyan’s Political Surge

In fifth place was Pawan Kalyan, the Deputy CM of Andhra Pradesh and leader of the Jana Sena Party. His party’s stellar performance in the 2024 Assembly elections, where all candidates emerged victorious, made him one of the top five most searched personalities of the year.
