A hat-trick for India at Oscars 2025, Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know joins the list of qualified films

Indian films are also going to dominate the Oscars 2025. The list of nominated films has already been revealed, and another film, Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know, has been included in this list. This film was also honored at Cannes 2024.

The Kannada film Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know has been qualified for the Oscars 2025. This short film, produced by the Film and Television Institute of India, has been qualified in the Live Action Short Film category.

Kannada film went to Oscar

On November 4, FTII shared this good news on social media. He wrote, “FTII student film ‘Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know’ is officially qualified for the 2025 Oscars in the Live Action Short Film category. The film’s poignant and intense narrative centers on an elderly woman who steals a village chicken.”

The film won this award in Cannes 2024

Student film ‘Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know’ won the La Cinef Award at the Cannes Film Festival (Cannes Film Festival 2024) this year. This qualification came after winning at the Bengaluru International Short Film Festival. This short film is directed by Chidanand S Nayak.  Suraj Thakur was the cameraman and Manoj V did the editing while Abhishek Kadam was responsible for the music.

These films also qualified for the Oscar 2025

Before Sunflowers, Laapataa Ladies also got an official entry into the Oscars. The film was directed by Kiran Rao, and produced by Aamir Khan. Even though the film was unsuccessful, it was well-liked on OTT. Along with Missing Ladies, the film Santosh has also gone to the Oscars.

Apart from this, Randeep Hooda’s film Swatantra Veer Savarkar has also got a place in Oscar 2025. With this film, Randeep has worked as a director for the first time and has also co-produced it. Ankita Lokhande is also in the lead role in this.
