Kolkata Rape Murder Case: The Kolkata rape and murder case has ignited widespread anger across the country, with people from all walks of life, including celebrities, demanding justice and severe punishment for the perpetrators. Among those who raised their voices is Mimi Chakraborty, a prominent actress and former MP of the Trinamool Congress.
She posted her thoughts about the case on social media this past Tuesday. However, as her post went viral, she began receiving rape threats and obscene messages on her phone. Chakraborty has reported these threats to the Kolkata Police and has tagged the Cyber Cell Department in her complaint.

Following the threats, Mimi Chakraborty expressed her anger on social media. In her post, she questioned, “And we are asking for justice for women? These are just a few examples. In a crowd where toxic men mask themselves, rape threats are normalized by those claiming to stand with women. Tell me, what upbringing and education allows such behavior?” She also shared screenshots of the threats she received.

Participated in Protests
Mimi Chakraborty participated in a protest against the rape and murder case in Kolkata. Other celebrities like Madhumita Sarkar, Riddhi Sen, and Arindam Sil also joined the protest, expressing their outrage over the incident. The protest took place outside the RG Kar Medical College on August 14.

Action Against Former Principal
Mimi Chakraborty served as the MP for the Jadavpur constituency from 2019 to 2024. Recently, she, along with other women, protested outside RG Kar Medical College and Hospital against the rape and murder of the 31-year-old doctor. According to media reports, the West Bengal government has initiated a departmental investigation against former RG Kar Medical College Principal Sandeep Ghosh, who has been found to have connections with certain contractors.
