Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and his wife, Dhanashree Verma, are making headlines following their divorce. The couple officially ended their marriage on Thursday, as per a mutual agreement. However, a shocking revelation has emerged from their divorce petition—Chahal and Dhanashree had already been separated for three years!
Divorce Finalized by Family Court
Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma filed a mutual divorce petition on February 5. On March 21, they appeared before the Bandra Family Court, which approved their separation. Notably, the Bombay High Court had urged the family court to expedite the process since Chahal had to focus on the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, starting from March 22.
Court Waives Cooling-Off Period
Under the Hindu Marriage Act, couples filing for mutual divorce must go through a six-month cooling-off period before finalization. However, in this case, the Bombay High Court waived the mandatory waiting period as both parties had already been living separately since June 2022, as per the divorce petition filed by their lawyer Nitin Kumar Gupta.
Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma tied the knot in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Their lawyer confirmed that they had already been leading separate lives for almost three years before making their divorce official.
