ED Raids ‘L2 Empuraan’ Producer Gokulam Gopalan, Seizes ₹1.5 Crore in Cash

In a fresh controversy surrounding Mohanlal’s political thriller L2 Empuraan, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has raided the residences and offices of the film’s producer, Gokulam Gopalan. The ED carried out the raids across ten locations and seized ₹1.5 crore in cash.

According to reports, the investigation is linked to Gopalan’s finance company, Gokulam Chit Fund Finance Ltd., which is accused of large-scale financial irregularities involving expatriate investors. The total value of the alleged scam is said to be around ₹1,000 crore, including FEMA (Foreign Exchange Management Act) violations and unauthorized financial transactions.

Movie Already Surrounded by Controversy

This isn’t the first time L2 Empuraan has made headlines. The film, which released on March 27 in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada, has faced criticism for including scenes related to the 2002 Godhra riots. These scenes sparked public outrage, leading the filmmakers to make 24 cuts in the final version before re-releasing it.

Gopalan had previously stated that he was open to removing objectionable content, and the edited version was later released to the public. Despite the controversy, the movie has performed well at the box office.

Gokulam Gopalan Under the Scanner

Notably, Gokulam Gopalan has already faced scrutiny from the Income Tax Department in the past. This latest round of ED raids adds to his legal troubles. The agency is probing allegations that his financial firm misled several non-resident Indians (NRIs), promising high returns through chit fund schemes that turned out to be fraudulent.

As the investigation continues, both the film and its makers remain under the spotlight.
