On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Munawar Faruqui has once again shared a post dedicated to the daughters of the nation. His post is deeply emotional and highlights the gravity of the Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder case.
As the country celebrates Raksha Bandhan, a festival dedicated to the protection of sisters, it stands as a stark reminder that the nation has failed to protect a daughter whose safety was once someone’s solemn promise. Despite the laws and facilities in place for the safety of women in this country, we are once again demanding justice for the “second Nirbhaya.” From common people to celebrities, the call is unanimous: the perpetrators of the Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder case must be brought to justice. Now, Munawar Faruqui has reacted to the incident, expressing his deep shame as a man. Here’s what Munawar had to say.
Munawar’s Video Post
Four days ago, Munawar shared a video on his Instagram with the caption, “A daughter was born.” Now, he has spoken openly about the Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder case. He also explained why he wrote his poem “Beti Hui Hai” and what lessons he is imparting to his son and daughter.
What Did Munawar Say?
Speaking on the matter, Munawar mentioned that the R. College in Kolkata is known for its safety and awareness. It is considered one of the safest places, but if such a heinous act can happen to a doctor, someone who saves lives, it is a grim example that women are not safe anywhere.
Don’t Turn It Into a Men vs. Women Issue
When asked how he views the incident as a man, Munawar expressed profound shame—not only for this incident in Kolkata but also for the many other tragic cases involving young girls. He said he is ashamed even to speak about how some people don’t even spare animals. Munawar urged that this case should not be turned into a men vs. women issue.
