She was residing in Indian Wells, California, where she passed away on Wednesday, August 14th, surrounded by her husband, Robert Forrest, her daughter, Alexandra, and other family members and friends.

According to media reports, news of the actress’s death had circulated earlier, but it was later confirmed by her son, Nick Cassavetes, through his agent. Initially, the cause of Gena’s death was not disclosed, but Nick Cassavetes later revealed that his mother had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in June 2024.

Gena was born in June 1930 in Cambria, Wisconsin, and began her acting career in the 1950s. She made her Broadway debut in The Seven Year Itch and quickly transitioned to television, appearing in shows such as Studio One, Laramie, Johnny Staccato (alongside her late husband John Cassavetes), Bonanza, and The Virginian. She made her film debut in 1958 in The High Cost of Loving. The news of her passing has left everyone deeply saddened.
