Maharashtra Government Launches Probe Against Ranveer Allahbadia: Renowned YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia has landed in controversy over his remarks on the show “India’s Got Latent.” Amid rising criticism, the Maharashtra government has ordered an investigation into the matter. Cultural Minister Ashish Shelar announced that the cultural department officials have been entrusted with the probe.
The decision comes after multiple complaints were filed regarding alleged obscenity in the show and other similar programs being conducted without proper permissions.
Supreme Court Moved by Ranveer Allahbadia
In response to the legal troubles, Ranveer Allahbadia approached the Supreme Court on Friday, seeking the consolidation of multiple FIRs lodged against him across different states. Senior advocate Abhinav Chandrachud, representing Allahbadia, requested an urgent hearing before a bench led by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna. He informed the court that Assam police had summoned his client, and multiple FIRs had been filed against him.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Police stated that they were unable to contact Allahbadia as his phone was switched off, his house was locked, and even his legal representatives were unresponsive.
Assam Government Also Files Case
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that Guwahati Police had lodged an FIR against Allahbadia and several other social influencers, including Samay Raina, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makheeja. The allegations pertain to promoting obscenity and engaging in explicit discussions on public platforms. FIRs have been filed against them in both Maharashtra and Assam.
Call for Stricter Social Media and OTT Regulations
The controversy has reignited debates on content regulation. Shiv Sena MP Naresh Ganpat Mhaske has demanded stricter controls on social media and OTT platforms, citing concerns over vulgar and provocative content. Addressing the Lok Sabha, he stressed the need for stricter enforcement of existing guidelines and additional measures to curb inappropriate content.
However, Mhaske also acknowledged the right of digital influencers to express themselves but urged them to respect India’s cultural heritage, traditions, and social values. He warned that crossing certain boundaries would inevitably lead to public backlash.
