Kerala Police Files Chargesheet Against Siddique in Rape Case: Renowned South Indian actor Siddique is once again in the headlines. The Kerala police have officially filed a chargesheet against the Malayalam film actor, confirming allegations of rape. This case, which has been under discussion for some time, has now taken a significant legal turn.

What Is the Case About?

According to reports, Kerala police have filed a chargesheet against Siddique in connection with a rape case. The accusations stem from an incident in 2016 when the actor allegedly called a female artist to the Mascot Hotel in Thiruvananthapuram under the pretext of discussing a film. The victim claims that Siddique physically assaulted her at the hotel.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) found digital evidence and witness statements supporting the actress’s allegations, strengthening the case against the actor.

Actress Filed Complaint in 2024

The case gained attention following the release of the Hema Committee report, which highlighted sexual harassment and gender discrimination in the Malayalam film industry. The actress finally came forward in early 2024, citing fear and societal pressure as reasons for the delay in reporting the incident.

Legal Proceedings and Court Decisions

Initially, Siddique approached the Kerala High Court seeking bail, arguing that the complainant had been harassing him with multiple accusations since 2019. However, the High Court rejected his plea, forcing him to appeal to the Supreme Court.

A Supreme Court bench comprising Justice Bela M. Trivedi and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma ruled that Siddique should not be arrested as long as he cooperates with the investigation. His lawyer, Mukul Rohatgi, also argued that there had been an unreasonable delay in filing the complaint, as no formal charges were lodged until 2024.
