Renowned Tamil actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party chief, Thalapathy Vijay, has found himself in hot water after hosting an Iftar party during the holy month of Ramadan. What began as a community event has now spiraled into a religious controversy.
Recently, images and videos of the Iftar event surfaced on social media, showing Vijay interacting warmly with the attendees. However, according to Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi, the National President of All India Muslim Jamaat, some of the invitees included gamblers and alcoholics, individuals considered immoral and harmful to society.
Taking serious offense, Maulana Razvi has issued a Fatwa (religious decree) against Vijay, condemning the actor’s actions and questioning his intent behind the gathering. The Fatwa has stirred widespread debate, with many questioning whether the party was politically motivated or a genuine act of community bonding gone wrong.
This controversy comes at a sensitive time as Vijay, a beloved actor across South India, is also building his political presence through TVK. Critics claim this move might alienate conservative sections of the community, while supporters defend it as a gesture of inclusivity.
As the backlash grows, all eyes are now on Vijay and whether he will issue a statement in response to the Fatwa or clarify his stance on the matter.
