Story:

The word Chhaava symbolizes a lion’s cub, an apt metaphor for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s son, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. The film is set between 1657 and 1689, showcasing Sambhaji’s relentless fight to uphold his father’s vision of Hindavi Swarajya.

The narrative begins with the Maratha victory at Burhanpur, marking the beginning of Sambhaji Maharaj’s heroic journey. After the death of Chhatrapati Shivaji, the Marathas continued their resistance against the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, who saw Sambhaji as a formidable threat. Despite Aurangzeb’s relentless attempts to crush the Maratha spirit, Chhaava’s courage and leadership made it clear that the Marathas were unstoppable.

However, a betrayal from within led to Sambhaji Maharaj’s capture along with his 25 trusted advisors at Sangameshwar. Even in captivity, he remained fearless, leaving Aurangzeb terrified of his unbreakable spirit. His last moments were dedicated to protecting Swarajya, proving that his sacrifice was for the nation’s honor.

Acting Performances:

🔹 Vicky Kaushal owns the film with his powerful portrayal of Sambhaji Maharaj. His expressions, intense dialogues, and action sequences make it impossible to see him as just an actor—he embodies the character.
🔹 Akshaye Khanna, as Aurangzeb, delivers a menacing and fearsome performance. Despite fewer dialogues, his presence leaves a lasting impact.
🔹 Vineet Kumar Singh is brilliant in his role, adding depth to the story.
🔹 Ashutosh Rana and Divya Dutta impress with their performances.
🔹 Rashmika Mandanna, despite playing the lead, has limited screen time and dialogues. Her portrayal of Maharani Yesubai could have been more impactful.

Music:

🎶 Composed by A.R. Rahman, the soundtrack surprisingly falls short of expectations. While Rahman is known for creating iconic background scores, Chhaava lacks a memorable theme song or tune that lingers in the audience’s mind.

Final Verdict:

🎥 Laxman Utekar’s direction beautifully captures the essence of this historical epic. The film excels in action sequences, powerful dialogues, and intense performances by Vicky Kaushal and Akshaye Khanna. However, the storytelling could have been tighter to evoke stronger patriotism and emotional depth.
