The latest episode of Indian Idol 15 witnessed an unexpected twist when two legendary figures in the music industry, Abhijeet Bhattacharya and Lalit Pandit, found themselves in a playful but heated exchange over a classic song recording. The episode featured Abhijeet Bhattacharya, the renowned singer, and Lalit Pandit, the famous music composer, as guests. As the show unfolded, a dramatic moment arose when Abhijeet shared an interesting behind-the-scenes anecdote about the making of the song I Am The Best from Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani.

Abhijeet recalled how he suggested that Shah Rukh Khan should personally record the last portion of the song, where the iconic line “Oh yes yes, I am the best” is sung. He revealed that during the recording session, he initially recorded a portion of the chorus and added his own take of the famous line. He then suggested to Lalit that Shah Rukh himself should perform that part. According to Abhijeet, within an hour, Shah Rukh was on the set, and he completed the recording with ease. This claim, however, didn’t sit well with Lalit Pandit, who was present during the recording and a part of the creative process.

Lalit quickly chimed in, refuting Abhijeet’s version of the events. He humorously pointed out, “Arrey bhaiya, mein jab baitha hu, tab toh mat phenk,” implying that he was right there and couldn’t allow false claims to be made. Lalit firmly stated that Shah Rukh’s involvement in the final recording had been his own idea, not Abhijeet’s. He explained that Shah Rukh had been present during the entire session and had expressed his desire to have the track in a certain specific way. Lalit recalled that after a few attempts, Shah Rukh suggested he would take over the final portion himself. Lalit gave Shah Rukh the green light, and he nailed it in just one take.

Abhijeet, not one to back down, responded by questioning whether he had lied, using the phrase, “Maine phenka?” He defended his position, insisting that it was his suggestion that led to Shah Rukh’s involvement in that memorable moment. However, Lalit persisted, elaborating on how Shah Rukh had, in fact, guided the process by asking for specific changes in the way the line was sung. Lalit clarified that Shah Rukh wanted the line delivered in a particular style, which led to multiple rehearsals before he finally recorded the line perfectly in a single take.

This exchange brought a slight tension between the two stars, each claiming credit for a pivotal moment in the song’s creation. Their banter, though playful, highlighted the dynamics of collaboration in the music industry, where multiple minds contribute to shaping iconic moments.

The brief but intense exchange between Abhijeet and Lalit added a touch of drama to the episode, leaving viewers amused by the friendly rivalry between the two music industry veterans. While the true story behind the recording of that famous line remains a matter of perspective, it was clear that both Abhijeet and Lalit played significant roles in bringing the song to life. The episode concluded with a sense of light-heartedness, but it certainly left an impact on fans who were treated to a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes drama in the making of one of Bollywood’s most memorable tracks.
