In the 50th episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 16, the ‘host aur dost’ Amitabh Bachchan welcomed Vidya Balam and Kartik Aryan as guests. While Vidya Balan played for the ‘Hamara Foundation’ Kartik played for both ‘Hamara Foundation’ and Tata Memorial Hospital.
To explain the reason to support Tata Memorial Hospital he said,” This is personal for me because a few years ago, my mom was diagnosed with cancer. She received treatment at Tata Memorial Hospital, and I’ve seen firsthand how much support they provide there. Even those who lack financial resources get the help they need. From that day, I made a promise to give back to this charity.” The episode was beaming with energy.
When they entered Kartik was seen approaching the host, Amitabh Bachchan’s seat after which he redirected him towards his own seat. After sateling down Big B said that Vidya Balan had previously come here but this was the first time for Kartik Aryan. To answer this Kartik said that it was his debut. Amitabh Bachchan funnily responded, “Bohot Galat debut ho raha tha. Aap idhar aa rahe the. Hamko thora sa darr ho gya tha hamari naukri chali jayegi.” Kartik responded that he was nervous.
When Vidya Balan disclosed that since Kartik had heard of coming to KBC he was anxious, Kartik humorously replied that that’s why he had brought Vidya with him cause, “Sir inka toh naam he Vidya Hai.” Vidya then responded that he is a science student he has a lot of knowledge after which Kartik requested not to ask any difficult questions. Amitabh Bachan was also seen supporting Kartik saying, “Many people study subjects like science but later forget everything. The person sitting in front of you is the same… Even I studied science and eventually forgot it all.”
During the game, Big B asked them which food item they couldn’t deny. To which Vidya replied ‘Dahi chawal’. Big B gave it a comical turn saying, “Aur sab haat se khate hai. Sab hat se nikal kar yaha tak pohoch jata hai. (showing his hand to elbow). Fie idhar se chatna suru karte hai. Hamne dekha hai isliye bol rahe hai. Yaha se chatna suru karenge ekbhi chawal ka dana bachna nehi chahiye.” Vidya broke into a peel of laughter after this.
Karitik on the other hand said he likes Chinese food that is available beside Big B’s house. He revealed that he used to eat so much from that shop that they started naming their dish after his name. Amitabh Bachchan also shared an incident related to this. He said, “Hamare ek pote hai, Agastya parhai karte the Newyork me udhar jate the kaha ek desi dhaba par. Ek chiz waha rakha hua tha usne dekha yeh Amitabh Bachchan uska nam dekha. Ab ye jo hai Agasta hamare ye bohot hi sanre (clever) admi hai. Wo gaye waha unhone bola apko malum hai wo hamare nana hai. Bole ‘kya baat kar rahe ho’ wo bola haa haa ,bole ‘are jaa aysehi fek rahe ho’. Fat se photo nikala bola ye dekh lijiye. Bhaisahab do saal tak usko free mei khana milta raha.” Everyone broke into laughter.
At a moment Big B was also seen praising Kartik for his dancing moves. Big B asked Kartik, “How do all the parts of your body move at the same time—your hands, legs, head, waist… how?” Kartik responded, “Sir, there’s a voice from within, and it just happens.”
Then Big share one of his experience of dancing. He said, “Sir humko Nritya aata nahi hai aur humko bahot daant padti thi.. aur hum toh uss zamane ke. humara ek gaana tha na saara zamana woh bijli ka dress pehli baar banwaya tha… taar yehi se jaata tha andar aur bahar jaake woh plug kar dete the.. Udhar se on karte the toh hum naachna shuru kar dete the..Aap ka nritya dekh ke humko yehi lagta hai sir aapka koi bijli ka taar toh hai nahi… toh kaise kar paa rahe hain aap.”
Vidya Balan also said that she loved the actresses of the 60s and 70s. She explained that they had a unique kind of beauty and grace and they could express their characters through their personality. And most of all Vidya said they got a chance to act with the Amitabh Bachchan and she would love to be his heroine.
During this conversation, she shared her experience of filming the film Paa with him. She stated that she played the role of his mother during the rain sequence of the film when Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan were doing a monkey dance. She stated during that sequence she was thinking, “Dekho kahan mujhe Aaj Rapat karna tha aur yahan main unki mummy ka role kar rahi hoon.” Vidya asked him for a romantic dance to which Amitabh Bachchan reacted by saying, “Humko ghar jaana hai.” Then they danced to the song ‘Dilbar Mere’ after which Vidya commented, “Cheeni Kum aapne kar li hai Cheeni zyaada hum kar lenge.”
