The National Commission for Women (NCW) has summoned YouTuber and influencer Elvish Yadav over his controversial comments about actress and Bigg Boss 18 contestant Chum Darang. Yadav has been asked to appear on February 17 after his remarks sparked public outrage.

The controversy erupted when Yadav made offensive statements about Darang on his podcast. He ridiculed her name and questioned her nationality, leaving many shocked. His words were seen as both racist and disrespectful. He also made inappropriate remarks about her role in Gangubai Kathiawadi, adding fuel to the fire.

During the podcast, Yadav questioned, “Karan Veer ko pakka COVID tha kyunki Chum kisko pasand aati hai bhai, itna taste kiska kharab hota hai! Aur Chum ke toh naam mein hi ashleelta hai… Naam Chum aur kaam Gangubai Kathiawadi mein kiya hai.” His statement drew immediate backlash, with many calling him out for crossing the line.

Darang did not stay silent. She addressed the issue with a strong response, stating that degrading someone’s identity and mocking their success was unacceptable. She pointed out that there is a difference between humor and hatred and stressed that the attack was not just on her race but also on the dedication she has put into her career. She expressed her disappointment that even a film helmed by a filmmaker as respected as Sanjay Leela Bhansali had been insulted in the process.

Her response resonated with many who supported her stance. Social media users condemned Yadav’s words, demanding accountability. Many felt that such remarks reflected a deeper issue of racial discrimination and insensitivity.

In reaction to the backlash, Yadav attempted to clarify his stance through his vlog. He said he had come across accusations online labeling his remarks as racist. Initially, he seemed dismissive, questioning whether he had even made such comments. However, he stated that he had decided to remove the segment from his content, claiming he wanted to avoid negativity. He also mentioned that if anyone had been offended, he had taken the step to delete the remarks.

Despite his response, the damage had already been done. Many criticized his lack of a direct apology, arguing that merely deleting the segment did not erase the impact of his words. Others believed that his reaction suggested he did not fully acknowledge the weight of his statements.

With the NCW stepping in, the controversy has now reached a legal stage. The summon indicates that the issue is being taken seriously at an official level. Whether Yadav issues a formal apology or faces further consequences remains to be seen. The incident has once again highlighted the need for responsibility in public discourse, especially from influencers with large audiences.
