Last Sunday Aapka Apna Zakir celebrated the golden era of Bollywood 90s with the diva Raveena Tandon. In a candid conversation with host OG Zakir Khan, she shared her early experiences in Bollywood the challenges she faced in her career, and her journey till now. The show was hit with iconic Bollywood performances and indulging stories.
Her debut film was Patthar Ke Phool opposite Salman Khan. She opened up about her declination of roles opposite Lucky Ali, Chunky Pandey, Sanjay Dutt, etc. She disclosed that she chose Patthar Ke Phool opposite Salman Khan as her debut due to her popularity after the film Maine Pyar Kia. She said “ I agreed opposite Salman because the next day when I reached college Maine Pyar Kia released. All of my female friends told me to do the film for them so that they could come to the set to meet Salman. And they said then you can leave the industry. I did Patthar Ke Phool in their pressure and never looked back after that.”
She said that she aspired to be an IPS Officer under the influence of Kiran Vedi. At one point she also wanted to be a Pilot. She was only in class 8 when she started assisting her father Ravi Tandon. She landed on her first film Patthar Ke Phool just after completing 10th. During the filming of Patthar Ke Phool, she was in FMJC at Mithibai College.
Then she described how she got the role in her first movie. She said, “We were sitting in a restaurant when the director Anant Balani and the co-producer Vivek Vashwan ji came and asked for my name and my dad’s number”.
Fatally Vivek was discovered to be the friend of Raveena’s brother and that’s how he found out about the relationship between Raveena Tandon and Ravi Tandon and she got the role in Patthar Ke Phool.
She also mentioned about her sizzling relationship with Govinda. They have shared screens in several movies like Akhiyon Se Goli Mare, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Aunty No.1, and Waah! Tera Kya Kehna.
She also talked about the challenges they faced during shootings. She emphasized wearing leather boots during shooting in the scorching sun and difficulties in wearing a chiffon saree and looking effortlessly sizzling in freezing cold where as heroes duly enjoy their warm comfortable costumes. She talked about the comfort of not wearing makeup. She said, “When you wake up in the morning and arrive on set, without needing makeup and wearing a comfortable silk cotton saree, it all comes naturally”.
