Kaun Banega Crorepati has always been a show that is close to people’s hearts. The stories of struggle and success shared by the contestants and the host Big B himself resonate with so many. Similarly in a recent episode while a contestant Akshay Narang shared his journey of surviving cancer Big B reminded him of his own struggle for the same.
Akshay Narang who is a motion graphic designer, was successful in getting a chance to sit in the hot seat. He shared that he had gone through an implant surgery due to cancer in his knee. He felt left behind as he had to get admitted to the hospital 13 times for this and his peer group went ahead with their career. The disappointment was clearly visible in this voice. Akshay shared that when he was recovering from cancer at home he started learning design. He remarked, “I had my family around me and I was going home with them. I had no reason to complain and it changed my outlook towards life.”
The host Amitabh Bachchan with all heart shared his journey of cancer too. He said, “Hum keh rahe the ki aapke saamne jo baithe hai vo bhi kayi baar jata rehta hai haspataal. Baki logo ki kripa se theek thak ho kar ke hum KBC dohdane vapas aa jate hai.” To cheer him up he added, “Aur abhi jo aap keh rahe the na ki baaki aapke jo college ke log jaa rahe the aur aap haspataal mein the isme bura maanne ki baat koi nahi hai. Mai isisliye bol rah ahu kyuki unme se koi bhi KBC tak nahi aaya, aap aaye hai.”
In the episode, Big be shared some experience with the iconic Guru Dutt. He said, “Bahut purani baat hai… Nirdeshak Guru Dutt Sahab ka naam toh suna hoga aapne..bahut he prakhyat Aur iconic director the Aur bahut si iconic filmein unhone banayi. Ek film joh unhone banayi thi jiska naam tha Kaagaz Ke Phool, itni sundar picture, lekin jis din Woh film release hui Woh chali nahi. Aur uska pehla show dekhne ke liye swayam Guru Dutt ji gaye theatre mein, Aur thodi der dekhne ke baad jab unhe laga ke nahi hai… toh unke saath unke joh lekhak the Abrar Alvi Sahab, unhone unhe kaha, ‘Chalo Abrar we have given birth to a still baby’.”
He also shared that when he introduced his mother to Amitabh Bachchan and his films his mother called him “bade bhaiya.” To this, Amitabh Bachchan asked him his mother’s name and requested the audience to give him a big round of applause.
With a successful streak, he reached the 25 lakh question but since he was not sure about it and he was left with no lifelines he chose to quit the show. After quitting when Big B asked him to choose one option he chose the correct one. Encouraging his self-confidence Big B said, “Kheltetoh sahi hojata. Jabse aap baithe hai hum aapko yahi bol rahe hai ki aapke dimag mein jo aata hain na, vo kabhi kabhi bol dena chahiye.”
The show is not just an entertainment for people. It is a platform that has the capacity to transform one’s life not only with money but with the confidence they achieve.
