Munawar Faruqui, the well-known stand-up comedian, seems to be caught in a series of unfortunate events lately. Just recently, he had to apologize to the Konkani community for a comment he made during one of his shows. Now, he’s facing another wave of criticism for a controversial remark he made about Khwaja Garib Nawaz.
During a recent stand-up performance, Munawar made a joke involving the revered Sufi saint Khwaja Garib Nawaz of Ajmer. While the joke initially received laughter from the audience, it didn’t take long for Munawar to realize the gravity of his words.
Munawar apologised for his offensive remarks under pressure from the Konkani community, but Khwaja Gareeb Nawaz was ridiculed. What has the Muslim community done on this issue since then?@munawar0018 #Munawar #KhwajaGaribNawaz #Naezy #NaezyGang #BiggBossOTT3 #Muslim pic.twitter.com/H1pI47Qf6c

Social media soon erupted with backlash, with many users, particularly from a specific community, harshly criticizing Munawar for his comments. Despite some fans coming to his defence, there’s been widespread demand for him to issue a public apology similar to the one he made to the Konkani community.
Munawar also addressed the situation on Twitter, suggesting that sometimes it’s better to stay silent when even your own people turn against you. This tweet appears to be a subtle reference to the hate he’s been receiving for his remarks about Khwaja Garib Nawaz.
