India’s Got Latent sparked a major controversy across the country. The show featured well-known social media personalities like Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani, and Apoorva Mukhija as panelists. An episode quickly drew criticism for the nature of the content and the remarks exchanged between a contestant and the panel. Viewers, celebrities, and public figures condemned the tone of the show and called out the panelists for promoting vulgarity.
Apoorva Mukhija, popularly known online as The Rebel Kid’, faced intense backlash. She responded sharply to a contestant who made an inappropriate remark about female anatomy. Many accused her of using foul language. But her supporters claim her comment was a reaction to the vulgar question thrown at her.
Recently, RJ Mahvash, who is rumored to be dating cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal, defended Apoorva. In an interview with Yuvaa, she expressed strong disappointment at how the conversation focused only on the panelists. She questioned why no one was talking about the contestant’s behavior.
RJ Mahvash pointed out that the contestant had asked, “You don’t have sensation in your vagina?” She criticized the fact that no one was calling out the contestant for this line. According to her, the man started the issue, yet only the panelist who responded was being held accountable. She asked why people were turning a blind eye to where it all began.
She said, “In 2018 there was a rape case reported in every 15 minutes. In 2022, there were 31k rape cases reported and everyone is stuck on Samay Raina’s abuses. If everyone would have come together and reacted to the rape cases then maybe it would have been lesser. Why is everyone stuck on this?”
She found it upsetting that society seems to get outraged only when a woman uses strong language. RJ Mahvash observed that people said things like “Yaar ladki kaise boldi? Isne kaise gaali de di. Ye toh bohot gandi baat ho gayi culturally.” According to her, the reaction would have been very different if a man had said the same thing. She insisted that wrong is wrong, no matter who says it. There should be a common ground of what is acceptable.
She questioned why people were silent about the tone of the show earlier. According to her, even in the past episodes, harsh language had been used. But no one raised their voice then. She suggested that the outrage only grew because a woman responded, and this highlighted the deeper issue of gender bias.
This incident has started a broader conversation about content boundaries, gender expectations, and the double standards people face online. While some call for accountability from all sides, others believe the spotlight unfairly shines only on those who fight back.
