When Bollywood’s Voices Met the Iconic Host: KBC’s Musical Extravaganza

Kaun Banega Crorepati has been a dream to som many. Recently Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghosal graced the hot seat of Ksun Banega Crorepati 16. The episode felt magical with melodies. They came to support the Smit Foundation. The presence of three wonderful people made the episode extravagant.

During the game Big B asked Shreya Ghosal if she gets time to watch films and Shreya answered affirmatively. Then Amitabh Bachchan asked her about her favorite movie. Thus Shreya Ghosal answered, “Aapki Bahut saare filmein” To this Big B said, “Isliye nehi pucha ki aap humari filmei bataei…”. Then Shreya Ghosal described her experience of watching films in the early days. She said, “Mei jaha pali badi hu Rawatbhata karke ek jagah hai ak Rajasthsan mei. Waha pe kuch suvidhaye , it is not city, waha par filmei humko dekhnneka mauka kabhi nai mila.”

She added, “The first film that I saw was on a VCR cassette. Ek hi VCR cassette pure colony mei ghoomte rehti thi rent pe. Aur woh thi Khuda Gawah. Aur who humne etni baaar dekhi hai. Yeh, pehla mera exposure to watching a film.” After that Sonu Nigam asked her to sing a song from the movie and she sang the title song of Khuda Gawah.

When she completed her singing Big B shared an interesting anecdote associated with the song. He said, “Ye ek Afghanistan ka bohot hi popular folk gana hai. Aur jab hum khuda gawah ki shooting kar rahe the to maine kaha yaar ye bohot achcha gana ban sakta hai. Fir jake ke jab Laxmi ji aur Peyare ji ko bola fir unhone is gaane ko banaya.” Amitabh Bachchan also said that Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghosa had sung 127 songs together and they knew each other at least for 25 years.

Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghosal also gave tribute to the iconic Amitabh Bachchan with their songs. He said, “Sir eske pehle ki aap aage badhe. Mei aur Shreya pehli baar yaha par ek saath aaye hai. Aapko toh pata hi hai ki sari duniya aapki fan hai aur mei toh aapka toh aisa andha bhakt rah ahu. Shreya bhi aapko bahut pyaar karti hai.” In response, Big B said to Shreya Ghosal, “Sonu has been here before and played very well; I was amazed by the way he answered the questions. Sonu bade guuni aur gyaani hai. If you ever feel stuck, Shreya, then look at Sonu for some inspiration.”

The Smit Foundation iis run by Yojna Gharata. She looks after abandoned elderly people in her foundation. To categorize the foundation as an oldage home but it is more than just a shelter to them. Yojna’s personal care gives them the family vibes. She shared that 126 people in that home are completely dependent on her. Yojna also shared that once she rescued a ‘papa’ from outside of a stadium who was eaten up by worms. Big B said that the fact that she is calling them ‘papa’ (father) itself is commendable. To appreciate her contribution to society and these people’s lives, Amitabh Bachchan called her ‘Devi’.

The blend of knowledge and music felt like magic. The caption of the promo was apt for the episode, it goes, “Aaj raat KBC ke manch par hoga sur aur gyaan ka sabse bada celebration!”
