Burger Bae, a thriving D2C clothing brand, recently grabbed attention on Shark Tank India. Led by Rohan Kashyap, Ojasvee Kashyap, and Janvi Sikaria, the brand’s pitch stood out. However, for Rohan, the moment carried even more significance as he had a secret plan in mind, one that had nothing to do with business.
In a conversation with Times of India TV, Rohan opened up about his Shark Tank journey, calling it an “unreal experience.” He shared that he had envisioned this moment for years, even setting Shark Tank India as his phone wallpaper. “I have been manifesting this for almost two years,” he revealed. Despite the excitement, he admitted to being anxious about facing the camera. However, the show’s team provided extensive support, helping him feel more prepared. Janvi, having previously appeared in reality shows like Splitsvilla, felt more at ease.
What the audience didn’t see was Rohan’s grand personal plan. He had initially intended to propose to Janvi during their pitch. However, the production team got wind of it before he could execute the idea. Since the show prioritizes business over personal moments, they strictly prohibited him from going ahead. He recalled how they even made him sign a formal agreement ensuring he wouldn’t attempt anything unrelated to the pitch. To prevent any surprises, he was thoroughly frisked before stepping onto the set. “At the end of the day, it’s a show about entrepreneurship, and pulling off something like this would have taken away from that,” he acknowledged.
During their pitch, Janvi mentioned her admiration for Aman Gupta, calling him her favorite Shark. Rohan, in a lighthearted moment, turned to the investors and disclosed, “She is my girlfriend.” He then shared how Janvi initially joined their business as an intern while studying luxury brand management. What started as a professional relationship soon blossomed into something deeper.
Burger Bae stepped into the tank seeking Rs 1 crore for 2.5% equity. After intense negotiations, they secured an impressive deal with Aman Gupta, Anupam Mittal, and Kunal Shah. The trio of investors offered Rs 2 crore in exchange for 20% equity. While Rohan’s dream proposal couldn’t happen on the show, his dream deal certainly did.
