Google on Thursday, November 6, 2025, unveiled 10 major updates for Google Maps in India, bringing AI-powered enhancements, proactive safety alerts, and improved travel management. These features will roll out for both Android and iOS users, making navigation more intuitive and personalized than ever before.
Gemini AI Brings Conversational Navigation to India
The most significant feature in the Google Maps India Update is the integration of Gemini, Google’s conversational AI assistant. Drivers can now talk directly to Gemini while on the move — asking for details like nearby restaurants, hotels, ratings, or parking space availability — all hands-free.
Gemini will summarize useful information about destinations, including user reviews, web content, and travel tips, to help users make quick, informed decisions. Additionally, Maps will connect seamlessly with Gmail and Google Calendar, automatically adding event or meeting destinations.
Smarter Alerts: Speed Limits and Accident-Prone Zones
Google has also focused on road safety in this update. The app will now alert users about accident-prone areas and display official speed limits directly on the in-app speedometer.
- Accident alerts are rolling out to Gurugram, Hyderabad (Cyberabad), Chandigarh, and Faridabad.
- Speed limit indicators are being introduced in nine Indian cities, including Mumbai, Kolkata, Jaipur, Lucknow, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Hyderabad, and Faridabad.
India joins the U.S. as one of the first markets to receive these AI-driven proactive alerts.
Real-Time Highway Data from NHAI
In partnership with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Google Maps will now offer real-time highway information. This data helps the app predict and notify users about traffic disruptions or accidents on highways, ensuring smoother long-distance travel across India.
Personalized Two-Wheeler Experience
Catering to India’s massive two-wheeler community, Google Maps now introduces customizable motorcycle avatars. Riders can choose between classic bikes, sports bikes, or scooters, available in eight color options.
This update will begin rolling out to Android users first, with added voice navigation for flyovers in nine Indian languages, enhancing accessibility for regional users.
Travel Made Easier with Google Wallet Integration
The new update also enhances urban travel convenience. Users can now link their metro tickets to Google Wallet and access them directly through Maps when navigating metro routes — simplifying daily commutes and ticket management.
Google’s Vision: Maps Built “For India”
Lalitha Ramani, General Manager of Google Maps India, emphasized the company’s local-first approach:
“Our approach in India has always been to combine our leading AI technologies with a deep, local understanding. With Gemini, we’re enabling a conversational, intuitive, AI-powered assistant to make everyday journeys smarter and easier. We’re also introducing safety initiatives in collaboration with NHAI and local authorities — reinforcing our commitment to building a map truly made for India.”
