iOS 27 and New Siri App Expected to Debut on June 8

New Delhi: Apple is ready to host its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026 this month. The five-day conference will take place at the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Park, California, starting with a special keynote event on June 8.

The event is completely free for all Apple developers, offering them a chance to connect with Apple experts and access new tools, frameworks, and features. Last year’s WWDC focused heavily on Apple Intelligence features and a new Siri, but many of those features have not yet been released. This year, Apple is expected to announce new versions of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS.

The keynote kicks off on June 8 at 10 AM PT (10:30 PM IST). Developers and Apple fans worldwide can watch the livestream on Apple’s website and YouTube.

Siri, AI Features, and iOS 27 Expectations

A redesigned Siri is expected to be the biggest highlight of WWDC 2026. Reports suggest Apple is transforming its AI assistant from a simple voice-command tool into a conversational AI companion capable of handling complex tasks across apps and services. The new Siri may understand on-screen content, access personal information across different devices, summarize emails, manage calendars, and execute multiple commands in a single prompt. Notably, these features were announced nearly two years ago during iOS 18 but have yet to roll out due to reported technical challenges.

Apple is also reportedly developing a standalone Siri app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Similar to ChatGPT and Gemini, this app could offer conversation history, file and image upload support, chat syncing via iCloud, and a better conversational interface.

Visual Intelligence and AI-Powered Tools

Apple Intelligence is not expected to be limited to Siri. The company is reportedly preparing major upgrades to its Visual Intelligence feature. If leaks are accurate, users may be able to recognize nutrition labels, contact information, and various objects directly through the Camera app. The Photos app could gain AI-powered tools like Extend, Reframe, and Enhance, while the existing Clean Up feature may see significant improvements.

Apple might also announce Genmoji, Image Playground, and smarter versions of Shortcuts. A new “Write with Siri” feature could help users compose messages, emails, and documents across all of Apple’s operating systems.

Other OS Updates

Beyond AI, reports suggest that iOS 27 and macOS 27 will focus on better performance, bug fixes, longer battery life, and refinements to the Liquid Glass interface introduced last year. Apple is also expected to redesign the Camera app, Wallet app, Safari browser, Weather app, and several other system components. On the watchOS front, the modular watch face previously exclusive to Apple Watch Ultra may come to standard models, along with new updates to heart-rate tracking and fitness features.

Final Thoughts

WWDC 2026 is shaping up to be a significant event for Apple, with a strong emphasis on AI and Siri. The rumored standalone Siri app and Visual Intelligence upgrades could bring Apple closer to competitors like Google and OpenAI. However, given Apple’s track record of announcing features that take years to arrive, users may have to wait and see which announced features actually ship this year. The keynote on June 8 will provide the first official answers.
